How do I use Sleepytot?Sleepytot FAQ information

When can my baby start to use Sleepytot?

Just like any comforter, baby needs to be old enough and mobile enough to be able to safely maneuver Sleepytot when they want to. This age can vary with all babies, depending on their development.

Some can start using their Sleepytots at 5 months, others may have to wait until they are 6 or 7 months. If in doubt pop Sleepytot onto the cot bars or out of reach until you know it’s safe for them to have the comforter in the cot with them unsupervised.

A great idea is to wear Sleepytot around with you for a day or so, then attach the Sleepytot to the cot rails nice and safe, but where your baby can still see it. Just being able to see the comforter at this early age can give your baby the security they need to fall back to sleep, especially if it smells all yummy like you.

Sleepytot can also be placed between yourself and baby while feeding for additional comfort.

What size comforter should I get?

The smaller of the two is probably a little smaller than it looks in the pictures.

Both sizes of Sleepytots will allow your baby to do the same thing; find those elusive dummies during the middle of the night!

The benefits of the smaller Sleepytot is that it is lighter for your baby to hold in her mouth especially if they want to use their dummy during the day. The larger Sleepytot is more like a comforter, very squishy and soft.

As a guide, I used the small Sleepytot for my daughter from 7-12 months, then transitioned her to the larger Sleepytot. Chloe doesn’t seem to mind, however, when I swap her back over to the smaller Sleepytot to give her big bunnies a wash. It really comes down to a personal preference for mum or dad.

How do I use Sleepytot?

To start with, make sure you give your baby lots of time to practice using their sleepytot, supervised, during the day.

Pop 1 to 4 dummies on his paws, and let your baby explore! When baby loses Sleepytot, guide her hand down to find him. Don’t get into the habit of replacing the Sleepytot yourself, as you want your baby to be able to do this without you. It won’t take long at all before bubs realises their precious dummies are on the paws of the Sleepytot, and they can replace them all by themselves.

Again as a reference, my daughter at 7 months, took 3 nights to learn how to replace her own dummy using Sleepytot. She had previously been waking up, up to 5-6 times a night, and within 3 nights she was sleeping though the night.

How do I wash Sleepytot?

The best way is in a delicates bag, and thrown into your normal wash.

He can be dried in the dryer the same way.

The advantage of Sleepytot is that, unlike some other brands, you can use your normal dummies which can then be easily taken off the comforter and sterilised or washed regularly.

What if I use MAM soother or another button type brand that has no ring to fit a Sleepytot?

Easy, you can pop an adapter from our website into your shopping cart for FREE which will allow you to use your MAM dummy with the Sleepytot.

What else can Sleepytot do?

He can hold onto cot bars, buggy and car straps while at the same time look after babies’ precious soothers.

He is a perfect pillow for little heads on changing tables.

He can also hold onto cold teethers – perfect for when your wee one is going through those painful periods of teething.

No more dropped soothers, teethers, or favourite toys onto the grubby supermarket floor when you are out and about.

Sleepytots are so clever they have won multiple awards.

In fact, Sleepytot is endorsed by the Millpond Child Sleep Clinic in the UK and the Baby Sleep Consultant in NZ as an aid to help older babies and younger children to locate their dummies so they can return to sleep easily without waking up Mum or Dad.
